Working on yourself

My girlfriend said something interesting the other night “everyone is a little screwed up”. Right? We all have something we need to be working on. Like it’s not enough that we are trying to stay in shape, eat right, keep the house in order, finances, keep the significant other happy . . . we have to work on our behavior too — how we handle ourselves outwardly and inwardly.

I think to truly be happy, you first have to love and accept who you are. And, acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. I was out to dinner with my girls this weekend and we were discussing that people truly are who they are from birth — and that it is impossible to change them. I don’t necessarily buy that. I think if a person wants to change, they can. It takes work for sure, but I think it can be done. My man and I have decided to come up with a small list of things we’d like to see the other work on . . . not sure how this one is going to pan out, but I think it’s going to be an interesting exercise. Especially because I’m sure it’s going to be very difficult for him to come up with an actual list 😉

So, as I sit here in my bedroom and see the piles of clothes that I always neglect to put away, I am reminded that we all have something we can improve on and that as long as you’re trying, that’s all you can ask of yourself.
