It’s salad season and I couldn’t be happier! This salad is crunchy with a little spice from the radish and cool and refreshing from the basil (even better if it’s from your garden!) This is a great side, or add some diced chicken for a meal.

Snap Pea, Radish, Basil and Ricotta Salata Salad

I know, kale is getting a little over done. But, this one is yummy! Have you ever eaten at True Food? We have one here in Denver and I love their kale salad. This salad is possibly as good . . . .

I was alone this weekend (heaven) and I notice when I’m alone, it’s hard to get psyched about making dinner for myself. I often buy sushi on my nights alone, but last night I was craving greens. I found this recipe on one of my fave blogs called Cup of JO – and had to try it.

I decided to add a chicken breast — so I sauteed it in olive oil with s & p. Meanwhile, I rinsed the kale and tore it into bite-size pieces. Then I made dressing with fresh garlic (because I didn’t read the recipe in time, which calls for baked garlic), olive oil, lemon, white wine vinegar, lemon, capers, mustard & agave. The sweet is important to cut the tartness of the lemon & vinegar.

On the salad, I put the grilled chicken (sliced) and drizzled the dressing on top. I also sprinkled crushed red pepper, parmesan cheese and a few croutons – I couldn’t resist.

What a great dinner for one – very satisfying, easy to make and healthy. Perfect!

There is something oddly cool about this . . .

I love a good salad and this one fits the bill. I haven’t tried it yet, but I know you can’t go wrong with this combination. I would probably add edamame for a little more protein punch (even though quinoa is already a complete protein) and a ton of lemon. This is the kind of salad my daughter will actually eat because it has strawberries!

Warm Spring Salad — Oh She Glows.

The popular MILF dating site is really pushing the envelope now. I think it’s pretty funny — many are outraged. What do you think? I don’t think there is anything sexy about breast feeding except that my AA boobs went to a B and I felt huge. I purposely wore no bra and tight tees just so I could see what it felt like to be out there. It was ok.

Speaking of cougars . . . I just had my first experience with Jaguars this weekend (that would be the older version of a cougar). I don’t know, I think at that point, you need to give up on the bar scene and just put out an ad. It’s kinda gross.

MILF Dating Site Ad Attempts To Sexualize Motherhood – PSFK.

I haven’t always been a huge fan — probably mostly because she’s super gorgeous, has a hot husband, and has what seems like a perfect life (I know, pretty shallow). Every time I saw something about her in Africa adopting yet another child — I kept thinking she was just doing it to get good press.  But when I read her Op-Ed about her decision to have a preventative double mastectomy, I cried.  I cried because of her self-sacrifice to be safe from getting breast cancer and her selflessness.  I could feel how much she loves her children and her family and wants to be around to see them grow-up and to be able to grow old with her husband.

My sister did the same thing about ten years ago — and, to me, I feel like it would be losing part of who you are — losing your female-ness. I can’t imagine volunteering to have your breasts taken and replaced by something artificial.  It was encouraging and empowering to read about her decision and knowing should I ever have to do something like that, that I wouldn’t be any less of a woman.

So, I’ve changed my tune about Angelina, I have respect for her bravery  and for the example that she is making for the rest of us. And using her celebrity in a good way.

Hi girls, I’m really back. It’s been a crazy couple months — but you will be seeing more of me now . . . .

This video made me laugh out loud. It took me back to my labors — especially the first one, when you have NO idea what is going to hit you. I just remember my ex shuddering every time I had a contraction (of course it could have just been the poo that kept sneaking out . . .) And, the simultaneous feeling of extreme joy and terror when they handed me my son.

You know, since I was a little girl, I always wanted to be black. I think black women are beautiful — the skin, the hair, the attitude. Also, since 1984, I’ve had a massive crush on Prince. Today, I just bought $250 concert tickets to go see him live. Insane.

I’ve been out of the loop for a while –  life has been moving at warp speed. I think I’m back on the wagon.
